These photos will be entered into the archives of the Washington County Historical Society because it’s the last time Old Settlers Park in downtown West Bend will look like this.

Today crews from the city of West Bend, led by Park and Forestry Superintendent Mike Jentsch, will begin deconstruction of the park on the triangle corner of Sixth Avenue and Main Street.

Representatives from the city Engineering Department, Public Works, Community Development, and Park and Rec were on hand last week laying out final details.

Removal of the electrical will be one of the primary tasks. Plant removal will be completed Wednesday by a volunteer group led by Roots & Branches.

On June 4, Washington County Insider was the first to report about a donation of $200,000 by the Milwaukee Foundation to the West Bend Community Foundation for the improvement of Old Settlers Park.

The decision had to be made on where to spend the money in West Bend, and after looking at downtown and events such as Music on Main, Farmer’s Market, and the great businesses downtown, Old Settlers Park was the final decision.

The completion of the project will coincide with the kickoff of Music on Main in 2016.
