February 23, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Join the Kettle Moraine YMCA and their Nature Based 4K at Holy Trinity in Newburg for a sled dog demonstration. In Alaska, The Iditarod always starts the 1st weekend of March. In celebration of the event, families are invited on Monday, March 6 from 10:30am-2:30pm to participate in the demonstration with Lynn Schanen, a 4K teacher at the Y. Schanen has raced sled dogs in Colorado in the past and is excited to share her experiences with students and families.
This unique event will introduce children to the sport and teach them that it is not just an Alaskan activity. Schanen will be bringing her sled dogs and sled for the demonstration.
The Y and Riveredge Nature Center have partnered with the West Bend School District to offer a Nature Based 4K program. There is much research that supports the impact of nature based preschool learning on the overall school readiness and literacy development of children. By exposing children to their natural environment, their cognitive, reasoning and observational skills improve. We hope you can join in the fun!
