Feb. 10, 2017 – West Bend, WI – An overflow crowd at MPTC on Thursday night as heroin addict Abe Nirschl, 29, of Kewaskum shared his story of addiction.
“I overdosed several times, but it wasn’t enough to make me quit or get help because I didn’t care if I died,” said Nirschl.
The Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School graduate said he started drinking and smoking pot in high school. Then he turned to harder drugs in college and eventually quit college just to do drugs.
“My parents kicked me out of the house. I thought I could quit on my own,” Nirschl said.
“Even when I was in jail …. I was doing drugs.”
“I’ve been fighting this addiction for 10 years,” said Nirschl.
The free series, Hidden in Plain Site, continues next week with special guest Assembly Rep. Bob Gannon talks about drug court.
