Feb. 2, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Week two of the Heroin Highway Lecture Series is tonight. This week those who have loved ones who struggled with the disease of addiction will talk about their situations.
The event is free and open to the public and presented by Heroin Task Force of Washington County, Moraine Park Technical College and the West Bend Noon Rotary.
Guest Speakers to include:
Holly Mercado-Schoessow and Karlee Kamps- Holly and Karlee are both inpatient pharmacists at a hospital in Appleton. They both grew up in Wisconsin and and have witnessed the devastating impact drugs have on the lives of families.
Tyler Schramm – Tyler Schramm reached out to Stop Heroin Now shortly after the loss of his beloved brother from a heroin overdose. He was determined to make a difference in our community, and help end the addiction epidemic. Tyler now volunteers as the Stop Heroin Now secretary and also serves on the board of directors. He continues to participate in numerous events, as well as host his own to raise funds for those who are struggling with addiction and families affected by it. Tyler is a proud employee of the Hartford Jt. No. 1 School District, where we work as a Information Systems Technician. He also spends his time attending UW-Washington County, working towards a bachelors in business administration.
“I’m on a mission to find the good in my tragedy and use it to make a difference in our community,” said Schramm. “I want to get drug education back into our school systems, churches, and other public forums in order to raise awareness.”
Jessica Goddard-Geschke, BS, CSAC – Jessica is certified by the State of Wisconsin as a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor. She received a Bachelors of Science in Human Services from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and an Associates Degree in AODA from Moraine Park Technical College. Her areas of focus are assessment and treatment of substance abuse in adolescents and adults.
Jessica has over 10 years experience providing individual, group and collateral AODA treatment services to adolescents and adults in residential, transitional, inpatient and outpatient settings.
She is the Director of AODA services at Affiliated Clinical Services in West Bend to include, IOP, Primary, Relapse Prevention, OWI/DUI programming and Teen AODA programs.
Over eight years working within and supervising medication assisted therapy programs, such as Suboxone and Vivitrol. She helps to bring a face and voice to recovery and end stigma with those affected by addiction through her community organization involvement including Rise Together, Washington County Heroin Task Force, Washington County Heroin Initiative Program, WI Voices for Recovery, WI United We CAN, World Wide United We CAN, Project Second Start, WI RAP, and SCAODA.
Jessica co-founded Wisconsin Siblings United Support group as she is the sister of a person struggling with the disease of addiction.
Jessica also volunteers her time on a state level by holding positions as AODA Advisory Committee Member Moraine Park Technical College of Wisconsin, Heroin Task Force Treatment Sub-Committee Chair Leader, The Wisconsin State Representative for Facing Addiction and The Wisconsin Coalition for Prescription Drug Abuse Reduction Collation.
Doors open 5 p.m. and the lecture series runs 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
The Noon Rotary bedroom display, Hidden in Plain Sight, is available 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. for guided tours/walk throughs. Everyone over the age of 18 is welcome.
There will be resource booths available from Elevate, The Heroin Task Force of Washington County, Affiliated Clinical Services and Stop Heroin Now, Inc if you should need assistance or help in any way during these events.
