Jan. 25, 2017 – Lynn Kathleen Miller, 68, of West Bend passed away January 24, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born March 6, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Edward Backhaus and Virginia Backhaus Warner. Lynn grew up in West Bend, along with her younger sister, Ann Hinz, and attended West Bend High School, where she met the love of her life and husband of 47 years, Larry Miller.
They both attended college at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. Shortly after graduating, they were married on the first day of summer, June 21, 1969. After a total of 25 years teaching at both Silverbrook Middle School and West Bend West High School, she relished her retirement and the good times that came with it.
Lynn lived life to the fullest, and enjoyed traveling to tropical locations, so much so, that she and Larry started Lynn Miller Travel in 2006 together during their retirement years. She always looked forward to helping others fulfill their own vacation dreams. Lynn also took great pleasure spending time together with good friends, especially on long summer days on the pontoon at Silver Lake.
But most of all, Lynn loved being around her family. She is survived by her mother, Virginia Warner, her loving husband Larry, daughter Lori (Paul) Popernik, and son Len (Lori) Miller. Lynn also has five adoring grandchildren who love her very much: Noah and Maya Popernik, and Emy, Ella, and Eden Miller. She is also survived by her sister, Ann (Dave) Hinz, brother-in-law Steve (Karen) Miller, sister-in-law Susi (Don) Aude, and former sister-in-law Jean Miller, along with many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Those who preceded her in death include her father, Edward Backhaus, step-father Roy Warner, and in-laws Edwin and Lucille Miller.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, February 4 from 2:30-4:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church located at 809 S. 6th Avenue, West Bend, WI 53095. A memorial service will follow from 4:00-4:30 p.m., after which there will also be a brief gathering in the church basement from 4:30-5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran School, 899 S. 6th Avenue, West Bend, WI 53095.
Many thanks are extended to Ron Komas and the caring family at The Kathy Hospice as well as Pastor Jeff Dorth and Pastor Dave Kellerman for their endearing warmth and support during this challenging time.
The family believes that when life ends on Earth, a new life begins in Heaven. While we grieve her passing, we are comforted knowing that she is at Home, at peace, and watching over us all.
