Jackson man suspected of OWI downs traffic signal, resists arrest and is Tasered by police

Jan. 9, 2017 – Jackson, WI – A 23-year-old Jackson man was stunned with a Taser when he fought with police who were trying to arrest him for operating while intoxicated and hit-and-run.

At about 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7 a passersby reported a downed traffic signal at the intersection of Main Street and Industrial Drive.

Officers found the front bumper, with the license plate attached, and traced the vehicle to the man’s driveway. An interview indicated the extremely intoxicated man had been the driver. When told he was under arrest and needed to be handcuffed, he started yelling, “I’m not under arrest.” The man then rolled on top of his arms and refused to put them behind his back.

After an officer attached one handcuff, the man pulled it back under his body and then swung his other hand out, almost striking the officer. At that point, another officer fired Taser probes into the man. Although the man stopped resisting, he still had to be told several times to move his arms behind his back.

The man was cited for OWI-first offense and hit-and-run/property adjacent to highway. He was also booked at the Washington County Jail on $300 bond for resisting arrest.
