Dec. 15, 2016 – Washington Co., WI – There’s discussion underway in Washington County regarding possible development of a beer garden at Ackerman’s Grove County Park on Little Cedar Lake.

The development is being floated by Eric Hyde, Parks Property Manager for Washington County. “We are in the very preliminary stages of discussing this and would like to keep the public informed and give them a chance for input,” said Hyde.

The thought is, since the county implemented priority-based budgeting it has to come up with new revenue streams. Hyde cites the success of beer gardens in Milwaukee County parks.

Do you think it would work here?

Washington County’s Public Works Committee is going to hash this over next week’s and the topic will be part of future parks discussions. A couple of public input forums have been scheduled for January 23 and 24. More details will be released in the coming weeks.

  1. IT’S A BAD IDEA TO INCLUDE DRINKING IN A FAMILY SETTING ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THE HARM ASSOCIATED WITH ALCOHOL AND THEN PEOPLE HAVE TO DRIVE AFTER DRINKING. BAD IDEA!!

  2. People drink anyway by bringing their own alcohol in.Port Washington started a beer garden on Saturdays in summer a few yrs ago on the bluff and it is a huge success. They since have added a stage for music. The city is making money on it. On a different subject,WASHINGTON COUNTY parks that have swimming should have an outdoor shower for people to rinse off. Most parks including Port Washington and all state parks have showers.

  3. Maybe if they do this they can make enough money to stop charging taxpayers to use their already paid for parks! Note sarcasm.
