Letter to the Editor | Voting on the $165 million WBSD referendum on the November 5 ballot | By Jean Weymier

October 8, 2024 – West Bend, WI – Regarding referendums on the November 5, 2024 ballot:
Vote YES on the statewide referendum question, because currently, the state constitution is written so ambiguously that some people in authority are misinterpreting it to say that anyone who resides in an area is considered a citizen who can vote regardless of whether he/she is a natural born citizen, a person who passed the full vetting process to become a legal citizen, or neither.

Letter to the referendum

A “Yes” vote will make the language crystal clear that only natural born or fully vetted legal citizens of 18 or older can vote in our elections.

Vote NO on the West Bend School District referendum concerning the $165-million loan, interest included.  During a time when everything has increased except our income, we do not need to saddle homeowners (or renters) with putting more money into these schools.

Many of our country’s smartest and bravest people over the centuries did not come from fancy schools.  It’s not the building that makes the students more intelligent.  It’s the good teachers, proper discipline, good curriculum and standards, and concerned parents that make the difference. Furthermore, decreasing enrollment and the closing of five schools (Fair Park, Decorah, Rolfs Early Education Center, Jackson Elementary and ESC. do not warrant increasing the tax burden for these buildings.

Finally, to ensure election integrity despite our hackable, computerized, voting machines, “write in” SUE TRUE for Washington County clerk. By law, “votes” cast — not just number of ballots submitted — must be counted on every ballot cast for registered write-in candidates immediately on election night.

If there are discrepancies between machine generated counts of ballot images versus votes cast on actual ballots, it can signal programming issues with the voting machines. Plus, we need Sue True’s professional skills as an analytic engineer which would aid in securing elections.
