Letter to the Editor | Time for change | By Jean Weymier

July 22, 2024 – Washington Co., WI – I thought Republicans believed in term limits. Why, then, do I keep seeing the Republican Party supporting so many people who have already served two terms (e.g. Eight years)?

Letter to the EditorWhen we get new blood and ideas on how to do things better, why aren’t they supporting them in running? The GOP is ‘protecting’ these incumbents so that the same people keep bringing the same, tired ideas. They become complacent.

Sue True is now running for County Clerk and Tim Ramthun is running for State Senate. They have been trying to bring the ideas of “We the People” regarding election integrity. They want to change things to bring the integrity people are seeking so they can have trust in our procedure as well as the outcome.
When I talk to people about it, they all want paper ballots and no machines. It is the only way we can be sure our elections are free from interference. That is what Sue True and Tim Ramthun want to do.
According to the definition of Democracy, Government by the people is exercised either directly or through elected representatives (Constitutional Republic).
I don’t feel like we’ve been in the latter for decades. Our representatives do not do what we want them to in most cases, including our city and county reps. Why are we stuck with the eyesore known as ‘The District’? It ruined our downtown. It does not fit in because it looks so different than our beautiful historic downtown.
What ‘We the People’ want are paper ballots and no machines but our representatives are not listening. This is one thing that Sue True and Tim Ramthun would like to accomplish. We need to vote for them to stir things up and make the changes we need.
