July 12, 2024 – West Bend, WI – Carleen May Henson, 95, of Crossville, TN, formerly of West Bend, WI, passed away at University of Tennessee Medical Center on July 7, 2024.

Carleen Henson

Mrs. Henson was born on June 29, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, the only child of Karl Schott and Delphia May (Wood) Schott.

She graduated from Southwest High School in St. Louis in 1947 and received a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Missouri in 1951. From there, she was a home economics teacher in suburban St. Louis from 1952 to 1960.

She married Walter Henson on August 18, 1956, at Third Baptist Church in St. Louis. They had two children, Caryla, born in 1961, and Brian, born in 1962.

After leaving the teaching profession, she became a homemaker. This is where she shined, as she had the ultimate servant’s heart. She truly loved The Lord, with a simple, childlike faith and constant cheer. She awoke every day with a spring in her step and a sense that no matter the problem, all would work out well. She was blessed with a strong mind and spirit.

She was a member at Third Baptist Church from youth until 1976 when the family relocated. Upon Walter’s retirement in 1986, they settled in Fairfield Glade, where she became a member of Fairfield Glade Methodist Church from 1986 until her passing.

She eventually moved to Good Samaritan Home independent living in 2015 and stayed in her beloved apartment until the end.

She loved helping others, woodworking, DIY, the St. Louis Cardinals, travel and playing piano. She was a true baseball and sports fan and was a “neighborhood mom”. She was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Brian Alan Henson; granddaughter, Carlynn Tuxhorn; and son-in-law, Guy Tuxhorn.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Eugene Henson; and daughter, Caryla Tuxhorn.

Services are scheduled to be on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. CST at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, 231 Westchester Drive, Fairfield Glade, TN with a final burial on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. CST at Memorial Park, 5200 Lucas and Hunt Road, St. Louis, MO.
