Allenton American Legion Auxiliary to host special Flag Day celebration Saturday, June 15, 2024 | By Ron Naab

Allenton, WI – Members of the Fohl-Martin American Legion Post 483 Legion and Auxiliary are presenting a special Flag Day Program on Saturday, June 15 at the Legion Post at 419 Railroad Street (County Road W) in Allenton, Wisconsin.  Join them and many guests in honoring Old Glory; the symbol of our nation’s freedom and a source of pride for all of us and especially our veterans.  

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. with the Flag Day Program at 2 p.m. The ceremony will include honoring the members of the Auxiliary and Legion that have passed away in the past five years.

 

There will be a special recognition of two outstanding Legion members that are no longer with us: Herb Kieferndorf and Tony Montag.  

Both men dedicated much of their lives serving our community and youth through the American Legion.  Also, part of the program will be a short panel discussion involving a veteran from WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, Cold War, Afghanistan and War on Terror.

 

As part of the honored guests will be the Wisconsin Department of the American Legion State Commander along with the Commander of the Wisconsin Sons of the American Legion and representatives from the state American Legion Auxiliary.  The Allenton Elementary Angels Choral Ensemble will be providing some patriotic songs during the program.

 

Following the program the attendees can visit tables of many organizations and An All-American Picnic with hot dogs and apple treats.  

 

The post is looking for volunteers to join the Sons of the American Legion [S.A.L. detachment], men that have had fathers, mothers, grandfathers/mothers, great-grandfathers/mothers, great-great- grandfathers/mothers or adopted or step, may join the S.A.L. 

Parking is at Zuern Building Products with handicapped parking/drop off on the south side of the Allenton Fire Department. Sue Melichar, President of the Allenton Auxiliary said, “Please bring chairs or blankets for seating, to enjoy the event in comfort. We anticipate a large gathering to honor what our flag stands for.

Allenton, WI – The Allenton American Legion and Auxiliary will be holding its first ever Flag Day Ceremony.

This event will take place on Saturday, June 15 at the Post on Railroad Street.

This will be a family-orientated experience with exciting exhibits and a special honor for two of the Allenton Legion members that have passed including Tony Montag and Herb Kieferndorf.

Both men were very active in leadership roles of the Allenton Post. Tony Montag served as a commander and was the leader of youth sporting events.

Herb was very involved with Badger State Boys and other academic venues for youth.

The goal of this event is to follow the American Legion moto “Veterans Strengthening America.”

There will be a special flag burning ceremony along with patriotic music performed by Allenton Elementary Angels choral group.

Monies earned through many opportunities will benefit the Auxiliary and Dogs2DogTags
from Sheboygan Falls. Dogs2DogTags is an organization that rescues, trains, and places
dogs with deserving veterans at no charge.

On this day, there will be stations to talk to representatives from Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of American Legion.

The doors at the post will be open at 1:30 p.m. with the program starting at 2 p.m.
Weather permitting the event will be held outside.

Participants will have the option to park at the Allenton Fire Station, 431 Railroad St, Allenton, and Zuern Building Products.

Following an American tradition there will be hot dogs, apple desserts, ice cream and non-
alcoholic beverages.
