The Washington County Slayers improved to 6-0 on the season with a convincing 52-6 win over the Dane County Steel.
The Slayers got on the board early and led 12 – 0 at the end of the first quarter following a pair of touchdowns by Shay Klitzke.
Playing in front of hometown fans at Slinger High School the Slayers put on a show in the second quarter with a 16-yard scoring run by Ryan Macheski, followed by a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown by Antonio Fontanz.
Add another 24-yard touchdown run by Klitzke and a 17-yard scoring pass from quarterback Mikey Bernel to Charles Mcquire. The Slayers led 42-6 at half.
The entire game the Slayers struggled with extra points. Early in the fourth quarter Demetri Itsines nailed a 53-yard field goal to put the Slayers up 45-6. Klitzke ran for his fourth touchdown on the day followed by an extra point by Itsines and the Slayers down the Steel 52-6.
The Slayers have a bye next week. The team returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12 to take on the Mariners (3-0) at Walsh Field.
