Hartford, WI – The Hartford Rotary Club and Hartford Union High School are pleased to announce that Elizabeth Larkin and Sarah Lingen were honored recently as Rotary Students of the Month. The students were given special recognition for their accomplishments at the Hartford Rotary Club’s Thursday noon meetings during the month of April.
Elizabeth Larkin is the daughter of Jamie and Robert Hahn. Larkin has been involved in the following co-curricular activities at HUHS: Girls Soccer (Gr. 9-12), Girls Tennis (Gr. 9-12), Student Council (Gr. 9-12), H-Club (Gr. 11,12), Best Buddies (Gr. 10-12), Math Club and Math Team (Gr. 10-12), and National Honor Society (Gr. 11,12). This spring, Larkin served as moderator for the Hartford Joint #1 community forum that allowed interested community members to question school board candidates on the education issues of interest to the community.
Larkin has given back to her community by volunteering her time with the Lake Country Swim team working concessions and timing at swim meets. Through Student Council, she has worked at Enchantment in the Park, Fiesta Latina, decorated downtown Hartford with volunteers for A Beautiful Hartford, worked Jumpstart for incoming freshmen, and delivered Valentine’s Day cards to local nursing homes.
Through H-Club, Larkin has volunteered her time with the elementary school fun fairs, the Pink Pumpkin Run, the Hartford Christmas Committee, the Salvation Army Bell Ringing campaign, the Toy Drive, the Supply Drives (Rogers Mental Health Institute and Hartford Food Pantry), the Shamrock Shuffle, and fall and spring concessions for HUHS
In the fall, Larkin plans to attend UW-Madison to pursue a major in Nursing and hopes to one day become a NICU Nurse.
Sarah Lingen is the daughter of Valerie and Tim Lingen. Lingen has been very active in the following co-curricular activities at HUHS: Future Farmers of America (Gr. 9,11,12), Environmental Club (Gr. 10,11,12), Math Club ( Gr. 11,12), Math Team (Gr.10,11,12), National Honor Society (Gr. 11,12), and Girls Volleyball (Gr. 9,10). In FFA, Lingen finished 74/226 in 9th grade and 25/175 in 11th grade in the state Equine Evaluation. In 9th grade, she finished 1st in Parliamentary Procedure at sectionals. Lingen’s Adversity Club Volleyball team won their divisional bracket at AAU Nationals during her junior year.
Lingen has given back to her community by doing volunteer work at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, helping with the Math Club’s Middle School Math Meets and Freshmen Jumpstart, participating in the FFA’s Fruit Sale, Pizza Making, Holiday Toy Drive, and Farmer Appreciation Day Deliveries, and working at the Environmental Club’s Druid Lake Rehab Project. She has also coached volleyball for the Hartford Volleyball and Adversity Wisconsin Volleyball Clubs and served as a camp counselor at Wild West Campground and Corral.
Lingen plans on attending the University of Wisconsin Madison after high school to pursue a major in business and a minor in psychology.
