West Bend Police responded and according to Lt. Brian McAndrews two teens were taken into custody. A news release issued by the WBPD is below.

On February 5, 2024, at 12:43 p.m. a West Bend Police officer assigned to the West Bend High School advised there was a physical altercation occurring between two 16-year-old female students.  Both were quickly taken into custody without injury and transported to WBPD.  Charges of disorderly conduct are requested against both through Washington County Juvenile intake.

West Bend Police repeat, the department “maintains a ZERO TOLERANCE approach to violence or threats of violence in any school setting. All acts of violence or threats of violence will result in an arrest. If you observe any violence or threats of violence, SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING and contact a school official or the police department at 262-335-5000.”

Questioned about the “zero tolerance” policy within the WBPD and how it does or does not impact the school district, Lt. McAndrews said, “We can’t control what the school district does with its discipline or whether the student is allowed back into school or not.  We request charges, once that’s concluded that’s the police department’s job.”

Questioned whether police could request stiffer charges, Mc Andrews said, “No, law enforcement requests charges for the violation of law that occurs.”

Questioned whether police keep in mind repeat offenders, McAndrews said, “That’s not a law enforcement decision – that’s a judicial decision.”

Families received an email from executive principal Jen Potter. A copy of that letter is below.

There have been multiple fights and press releases issued by the West Bend School District. Earlier this year, January 2024, there where 6 expulsion hearings on the docket for the West Bend School Board.

In December 2023, West Bend Police posted a news release about felony charges being filed against 5 students following a fight in the parking lot at the high school.

A portion of the article is below:

One of the 16-year-old males suffered facial and head injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment via ambulance. The 14-year-old female, one of the 15-year-old males, and the 16-year-old female complained of minor injuries and were also taken to a local hospital for treatment via ambulance. All subjects remained in police custody while receiving initial medical treatment.
During the ensuing investigation, one of the initially detained subjects was determined to have been actively trying to stop the fight and was released to his parents. The other five subjects remained in custody until processed through the criminal juvenile intake system.
Three of the five subjects were placed into secure detention on felony charges of Physical Abuse of a Child. The remaining two subjects were processed, released to their parents, and will be facing a felony charge of Physical Abuse of a Child. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
