The Washington Sheriff is currently investigating the theft of a 2004 silver Toyota Camry with a license plate of 837-PYY while the owner was inside the U.S. Post Office in Allenton on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 2:53 p.m.
The vehicle was parked on the street in front of the U.S. Post Office, 330 First Street, with the keys in the ignition while the operator was conducting personal business.
Witnesses reported the suspect, who was seen in the area immediately prior to the theft, is a younger white male wearing a dark hoodie. As of this report, the vehicle has yet to be recovered.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 262-335-4411.
If law enforcement has contact with the vehicle in operation, it is standard protocol to treat the traffic stop as “high-risk.” These types of traffic stops are inherently dangerous to citizens in the area, the subjects involved and the officers conducting the traffic stop.
This is due to all the unknown variables that law enforcement could face. Recovering the vehicle while not in operation is our preferred method.
