Washington County, WI – It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Jay Scott German on October 23, 2023. Jay’s Heavenly Father called him home after a courageous 14-month battle with AML leukemia.
Jay’s life was marked by quiet strength and a commitment to the values he held dear. He was dedicated to his family, his faith, his country, and his community, consistently putting the needs of others before his own. His actions made a positive difference in the world around him, and his absence will be sorely felt by many.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Joanie (Ambrowiak), and was a steadfast father to Stacy Johnson (Patrick) and Allison O’Donnell (Ewan). He took great joy in his role as Grandpa to Lewis, Tallulah, Cameron, and Rocco. The son of the late John (Jack) and LaRae German, Jay was a supportive brother to Timothy (Susan), Paul (Carla), and Julie Keith (Timothy) and maintained a close relationship with his aunt, Barbara Lang (Jim), uncle, Randy Umbs, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jay’s sense of duty was evident in his lifelong volunteer service with the Allenton Fire Department, which spanned an impressive 50 years. His professional path in law enforcement, first with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and later with the Germantown Police Department, was characterized by 37 years of reliable and empathetic service. He was known for his pragmatic approach to helping those in distress, earning respect from both colleagues and community members.
Away from work, Jay embraced hobbies such as photography and genealogy, appreciated nature’s simple beauty, and was a regular volunteer at Slinger High School football games. His genuine nature, easy smile, and ready humor, often evident in his fondness for “dad” jokes, brought lightness and comfort to those around him.
Jay’s life may be best honored by recognizing that he was a man who lived not for accolades but for the principles of care, service, and responsibility that guided him. In remembering Jay, the family prefers community members to extend their support through contributions to the Allenton Volunteer Fire Department in lieu of flowers.
We bid farewell to a man who was a steady presence in the lives of his loved ones and community. Jay, you will be sincerely missed. Rest now, knowing your legacy of quiet strength and service continues in the lives of those you touched.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6430 County Rd D, Allenton, from 9:30 until 11:45 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 12 noon. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Allenton Volunteer Fire Department are appreciated.
