Obit: Lillian Emma Fischer, 95, West Bend

LILLIAN EMMA (nee FICKLER) FISCHER completed her life’s journey on October 1, 2016, in Monona, Wisconsin, at the age of 95.  She was born on November 8, 1920, to Edwin and Emma (Feldman) Fickler.  She grew up on her family’s farm, attending Fillmore Grade School, West Bend High School, Class of 1938, and Mount Sinai School of Nursing, Class of 1943.  Lillian married Harold Fischer on October 13, 1945, and they settled near West Bend raising two children, Cheryl and Brian.

 
Before retiring, Lillian was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital in West Bend. She was a dedicated volunteer for her church, the League of Women Voters, Homemakers, her Mount Sinai alumni class, the St Joseph’s Hospital Board, the Red Cross and other organizations.  She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, golf, investment club, playing cards and sewing.  She was a diligent homemaker and gardener.  Lillian loved her lifelong career which included private duty, industrial and surgical nursing.

 
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband in 1993, parents, one sister, 4 brothers, 5 sisters in law and 3 brothers in law.  She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Christopher) Anderson of Merrimac, Wisconsin, her son, Brian Fischer (Rita Renner) of Mount Hope, Wisconsin, two step grandchildren, one step great grandchild, one sister in law and many nieces, nephews and friends.  The family thanks Heritage Assisted Living and Agrace Hospice staffs for their care and Margie Chapman for her caring concern and friendship with mom for over 50 years.

 
A visitation will be held at the Phillip Funeral Home, in West Bend, Wisconsin, on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., followed by a memorial service.  A gathering for family and friends will follow.  Interment will be at the Washington County Cemetery.

 
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you give to your favorite charity or to a charity that supports dementia research.
