May 6, 2023 – Fond du Lac Co., WI – A considerable difference in prices at the pump as Love’s off I41 in Fond du Lac has a gallon of regular unleaded at $2.99.
Across the Interstate, diesel is a bit more of a bargain.
40 miles to the south in Washington Co., WI prices vary from $3.59 and higher for a gallon of regular unleaded.

Yesterday I filled up in Lomira for $3.09. West Bend was at $3.69.
This is an annual spring occurrence as Washington County is in a different air pollution attainment zone than Fond du Lac. Washington County is required to sell a different blend of gas in the summer (remember when you could drive to FdL to get ethanol-free gas?). This happens when Southeast Wisconsin switches over to this blend required for these 7 counties. The opposite pricing disparity is known to happen in October when going to the winter formulation.
Yeah there are some major issues going on. Maybe a reporter and dig in and find what’s causing this. I am sure they will blame it on the summer reformulated fuel but there are plenty of places selling the summer reformulated fuel for $3.29 so its basically just gouging in West Bend.
