The complainant also reported the suspect is typically armed with a handgun and that he was verbally threatening to shoot and kill people.

When deputies arrived they located the suspect still outside the residence and he refused to comply with their commands. The suspect refused to show deputies his hands and was yelling at them to shoot him. Deputies could also see a holstered handgun attached to the front of his clothing. A perimeter was set up to contain the suspect to the front yard and negotiations for a peaceful surrender were initiated. Residents in the vicinity were evacuated or sheltered in place and the Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Crisis Negotiator teams were activated to resolve the armed standoff.

At 11:52 p.m. the SWAT team deployed less lethal beanbag rounds which struck the suspect, however he attempted to flee on foot. As he ran, the suspect pulled the handgun from his chest holster. K9 Rip, who was part of the perimeter arrest team, was immediately deployed and apprehended the suspect with a bite. The suspect then then dropped the firearm from his hand. He was taken into custody by deputies and turned over EMS personnel on scene for treatment of bite wounds and ultimately transported to St. Agnes Hospital for further treatment.

Multiple criminal charges related to the incident will be forthcoming when the investigation is complete.

Assisting at the scene was the Wisconsin State Patrol, DNR, Campbellsport Ambulance and Campbellsport Police Department.
