Allenton, Wi – The Badger Firefighter Association hosted a volunteer firefighter training program to help emergency responders dissect and react to unique rescue situations in an agricultural setting.

“The specialized training program in an agriculture setting has volunteer firefighters reviewing a whole bunch of uncommon situations,” said spokesman Ron Naab. “Crews will be using things like knots and rigging. There’s rollover recovery work where tractors have pinned people and heavy equipment rescue scenarios where our participants have to think outside the box safely.

Some of the scenarios included: a tractor rollover, a skid steer vs. vehicle, a pickup truck under a semi, a rescue from a silo, and a person trapped in a bale mixer.

“Our instructors are trying to get the students to think about it,” said Naab. “Instead of us telling them what to do, we guide them. This is the place to do things, and if it doesn’t work then you didn’t hurt anybody.”
“We did a whole gamut of rescue training programs to teach them how to prepare to work as a team, come up with solutions and do it safely,” said Naab.
