Another World Title for Town of Kewaskum speedskater Jordan Stolz

March 4, 2023 – Heerenveen, Netherlands – Town of Kewaskum speedskater Jordan Stolz, 18, just took another World Title with a first-place finish in the 1,000-meter.

At 9:15 a.m. Stolz toed the line in the outside lane as he squared off against Hein Otterspeer of the Netherlands in the final 1,000 meter on the day.

Clearly ahead in the final turn the entire arena rose to its feet, witnessing history in the making as Stolz captured his second gold and another World Title at Heerenveen finishing in 1:07.11

Stolz finished .67 ahead of the second-place finisher Olympic Champion Thomas Krol of the Netherlands.

”Yes he is definitely peaked,” said coach Bob Corby. “That is why he is winning by so much. Well, and he is immensely talented!!! No one here can believe it! Everyone except his fellow competitors is amazed and excited for him. Ice doesn’t matter, everyone has it the same. One more to go!!”

Stolz was just .02 of a tenth of a second off the track record set in January 2020 by Pavel Kulizhnikov who finished in 1:09.09.  Kulizhnikov also holds the world record in the 1000-meter at 1:05.69 set 2020-02-15.

On Friday night, Stolz won gold in the 500-meter finishing with a time of 34.10 and set his first World Title on the weekend.

Stolz is coming off a phenomenal World Cup performance in Poland where he took the gold in the 1500 meter and set a new track record.

In the 500 meter in Poland, Stolz finished in second place capturing the silver with a time of 34.73. Interesting to note, the gold medal winner of the 500 meter in Poland was Yuma Murakami of Japan who finished just .04 seconds ahead of Stolz with a time of 34.69. 

Stolz also picked up a silver in the 1000 meter two weeks ago in Poland, clocking in with a finish time of 1:08.64.

In post-race interviews, other skaters are referring to Stolz as the “Michael Jordan” of speedskating.

Stolz is a native of Washington County, Wi who began skating with his family on the pond outside their home in the Town of Kewaskum.

Stolz competed in the 2022 Beijing Olympics and in November 2022 he earned the title ‘Fastest man on ice’ after becoming the youngest skater to record a time of 1:44:891 in the 1,500-meter race at the World Cup in race in Stavanger, Norway.
