Dive Team called to Big Cedar Lake | By Sgt. Michael Hennes

February 15, 2023 – Town of West Bend, WI – On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at about 11:30 am the Washington County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a phone call reporting a pickup truck had possibly broken through the ice and sunk into the north end of Big Cedar Lake.

From their home on the east side of the lake the callers had been watching a truck driving on the ice.

After looking away for a short period of time they looked back towards the lake and could no longer see the truck. The callers feared the truck broke through the ice and sunk.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded and located some unattended fish equipment on the ice west of the callers address.

The Sheriff’s Office dispatched the Washington County Dive Team as well as the drone units operated by the Sheriff Office.

With the assistance of divers in Ice Rescue suits and the use of the drones, the unattended equipment and surrounding area was quickly searched. No submerged vehicles were found, and no one was located needing assistance.

Agencies responding to this call were, The Washington Co. Sheriff’s Office, Kewaskum Fire Department, West Bend Fire Department, Fillmore Fire Department, Allenton Fire Department, Slinger Fire Department and Richfield Fire Department.
