This week, parks crews were busy putting up the Veterans Park ice skating rink now that we have finally seen cold enough temperatures. For the rinks to form correctly, the average day and nighttime temperature needs to be below 20 degrees for an extended time. Luckily, we had that this week with nighttime lows below zero.
The rink will be open for the first time on Saturday morning. If for any reason, there appears to be standing water on the rink, you are asked to stay off of it until it firms up again. Throughout south eastern Wisconsin, many rinks which are created not on natural lakes or ponds have become less and less common as the weather has so greatly shortened the skating season while the costs have risen to put these together. If the Ground Hog was correct on Thursday and we have six more weeks of winter, we hope to have an extended skating season.

Please remember to pay attention to any signs posted before using the rinks.
