Fatal crash in Washington County, WI | By Sheriff Martin Schulteis

January 13, 2023 – Washington Co., WI – On Wednesday January 11, 2023 at 5:30 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a 2-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Cty Tk K and Donegal Road in the Town of Erin.

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from Richfield Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene.

Preliminary investigation on scene indicated that a vehicle operated by a single occupant was northbound on Cty Tk k when it failed to yield the right of way and attempted to turn west onto Donegal Rd. A southbound vehicle with its operator and two passengers crashed into the northbound vehicle.

Before the Deputies and Fire-Rescues arrival it was reported that the operator of the northbound vehicle was unconscious. Upon the Deputies arrival on scene the operator of the northbound vehicle was conscious and alert with injuries and was transported to Froedtert Menomonee Falls by Richfield Rescue. The driver and two occupants of the southbound vehicle were evaluated on scene by Richfield Rescue and were released on scene. Deputies located two people on scene who witnessed the crash and obtained statements from them.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was later notified the operator of the northbound vehicle, whom was transported to Froedtert Menomonee Falls, died of his injuries resulting from the crash after arriving at the hospital.

The deceased operator was an 88-year-old male from the Town of Erin. The initial investigation determined the deceased operator was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and contributing factors were fail to yield the right of way and heavy fog at the time of the crash.

This incident is Washington County’s first traffic fatality in 2023.

No further information is being released at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
