December 6, 2022 – West Bend, WI – I’m a senior citizen and I live in West Bend Wisconsin. I was born and raised here. I attended Barton Grade School, St. John’s Lutheran School, and West Bend High School. I worked for the West Bend Company, Mallard Coach and Bend Industries.
I was in the workforce and West Bend for 40 years. I married and my husband and I raised our family in West Bend.
Now I’m in my 80s and I fully expected I’d spend my last days in this city.
But I fear the current committee working on the future of the Samaritan Home is ready to turn its back on its seniors.
Some of the things I have heard about the committee is off putting. Are you really working in the interest of this community or is the result of your findings going to be refrigerator boxes for senior care under the bypass?
Our working years and West Bend provided an income on which our family could comfortably live.
Some savings were accumulated, but nothing that would be able to cover the cost of care when the end of life is upon us.
We would have to depend on Medicaid. Not a lot of us, would be able to afford monthly invoices of thousands of dollars for our care.
More and more facilities are operating on private pay only, so now when stability and familiarity is most important in our lives we would be turned away.
I volunteered at the Samaritan for six years and was able to see the care and affection for the residence.
I hope and pray I will be the recipient of that care in the future.
Please, on behalf of all seniors do not take away the Samaritan Home, our last place of peace, love and comfort.
