September 1, 2022 – West Bend, WI – A former 5th District aldermanic candidate and the newest member of the West Bend Plan Commission has died. James Knepler, 69, had been involved in local politics for several years.
Knepler, a licensed CPA, had been on the West Bend Library Board, announced a run for 5th District alderman on January 3, 2022, ended up losing to incumbent Jed Dolnick in the April 2022 election and most recently served on the West Bend Plan Commission.

Knepler died suddenly this past week. Members of the Plan Commission were informed about Knepler’s passing and an announcement was made Thursday night during the meeting of Common Sense Citizens of Washington County.
Knepler had lived in West Bend with his wife Deb for more than a decade. The couple have two children and three grandchildren.
Services for James Knepler have yet to be posted.
The seat on Plan Commission will be filled by appointment. Those with a desire to serve are asked to turn in letters of interest at City Hall.
