Interchange to see safety improvements
Beginning Monday, August 29, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is scheduled to start resurfacing work on the US 45 and WIS 33 Interchange in Washington County. Built in 1986, and with its last rehabilitation in 1999, it is evident that this interchange is in need of modernized safety improvements.
Currently, this interchange’s turn lanes do not offer adequate vehicle storage capacity. In order to improve the safety and operation of the interchange, the following work will take place:
- Lengthening the right turn lane on the US 45 northbound exit ramp to WIS 33 eastbound
- Lengthening the left turn lane from WIS 33 westbound to the US 45 southbound entrance ramp
Safety to the traveling public is of the utmost priority. To facilitate this work in the safest way, WIS 33 will experience short-term single lane closures during off-peak hours, with US 45 implementing minimal shoulder closures.
The contractor, Vinton Construction Company, is planning on completing the $230,000 project later this fall. This schedule of work is weather dependent and subject to change.
