One person injured after gas tank catches fire inside auto repair in Kewaskum, WI

June 14, 2022 – Kewaskum, WI – One person was injured following a fire at Mike’s Automotive, 1245 Fond Du Lac Ave, Kewaskum, WI.

According to Kewaskum Fire Chief Mark Groeschel the fire started in the auto repair shop as mechanics were drilling a hole in a gas tank, some gas was spilled and started on fire.

The fire call came in just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

Five fire departments responded including Kewaskum, West Bend, Boltonville, Newburg and Kohlsville.

“There was some damage to the roof of the structure, the ceiling and a vehicle was damaged,” Groeschel said.

One person was transported to the hospital; he suffered burns on his hands.

“The quick thinking of Mike Dickmann, the owner, and a couple guys from Brodzy’s Auto across the street knocked most of the fire out before fire crews arrived,” said Groeschel.

No damage estimate is available.
