Rogue deer in West Bend are one of the top five complaints aldermen hear from neighbors in the community. During Monday night’s common council meeting aldermen will consider amending an ordinance to allow bow hunting in West Bend Parks.

“The program is mirrored after Dane County,” said Mayor Kraig Sadownikow. “The ordinance has the support of the Police Chief and it’s really an effort to maintain and manage the deer populations in West Bend.”

Sadownikow said there is a certain amount of landscaping being damaged and quite a few being hit by vehicles.

The ordinance is written to allow bow and arrow or cross bow, a special permit would be needed and shots would have to be taken from an elevated area. Police would have to be called prior to going into the woods and after a hunter exits the woods.

The program would be monitored by the DNR and the special hunting permit would run in conjunction with the bow hunting season.

The discussion of a special hunting permit was prompted by Alderman Steve Hutchins, John Butshlick and Steve Hoogester.

Monday night’s West Bend council meeting gets underway at 6:30 p.m.

  1. Seriously, what kind of sport would call this? I have deer hunted and would compare this to hunting animals at a zoo! I live across from Regner Park and enjoy the few deer sightings. Try driving the speed limit, and enforcing the speed limit, which is 25 mph on Park Ave, and you wouldn’t hit any!

  2. Rogue deer? We build our homes on their land, take away their food sources hunt them for sport, and because they are trying to live with what we have left them, they are rogue deer? Let’s risk life and limb of people using our parks so we can totally exterminate them? This line of thought sickens me.
