Jordan Stolz success is sweet validation to parents, family | By Jason Howarth

Washington County – As Kewaskum native Jordan Stolz represents the USA in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in the sport of speed skating, the sacrifices made to get him there are nothing short of remarkable.

This doesn’t just merely apply to Jordan, but also to his parents, Dirk and Jane Stolz, too. For Jordan, the commitment to success is straightforward, but far from easy, as the sense of focus and hard work required is a mentality that he has been able to tap into on the rink and in the classroom at high school.

Even then, Jordan has made no secret about not over-focusing on his future.

“I am really just enjoying and making the most of my moment now,” Stolz said, “I have heard about a great skating program in Utah, so that may be a possibility after high school.”

Jordan still has the opportunity of a lifetime right now to take home gold in his two individual events, the 500m, live on Peacock at 2 a.m. on February 12, 2022, with an 8:45 a.m. replay on the USA Network and the 1000m, which is on Peacock at 2:30 a.m. on February 18, while USA Network starts coverage at 3:00 a.m.

For Jordan’s father Dirk, the pride in his son has not come without paying a personal price. The prime example is how both Jane and Dirk Stolz had to change up their work schedules to support Jordan. “My wife had to work part-time to help him with his schooling during the pandemic,” Stolz said, before adding, “I had taken up working third-shift to be able to drive Jordan to practice every day. Parents and family need to be prepared to sacrifice just like the athletes do to make things work.”

Dirk Stolz said the results he sees from Jordan, his desire to get better, stronger, and faster on the ice, plus the level of competition he takes on and succeeds against is all the affirmation Dirk Stolz needs to reassure him that his and his wife’s sacrifices have not been in vain.

With gold medals hanging in the balance, there are few things that could provide sweeter validation for the efforts of all involved in Jordan’s story, and pride in the achievements that Dirk and Jane Stolz have for their son.
