February 4, 2022 – Germantown, WI – Despite the negative aspects of COVID, there is a positive – virtual learning gave parents the opportunity to engage with what is being taught in schools, resulting in the Great Parental Awakening. We are witnessing increasing attention to the quality and content of children’s education. Parents have identified areas of concern and are addressing them.
A group of dedicated Germantown parents took on this work, and from it, Russ Ewert emerged. The father of 3 district children is running for School Board Seat 2. Parents realized that school curriculum and staff professional development has gone beyond educating children in core subjects to include indoctrination of division under the guise of equity and inclusion. They also learned the true picture of academic achievement has been distorted through the “adjusted-down” DPI state report card.
Transparency is a large concern and core to Russ’ campaign. Parents should not have been forced to file Freedom of Information Act Requests to access classroom and teaching methodology content. Russ plans to work toward full transparency of curriculum and teacher training, so parents and the community can be comfortable and engaged with district education. Further, he intends to return the focus to academic achievement by advocating for an internal “report card.” Everyone needs to see exactly how our district is performing, because math and reading scores are not where they should be.
I am supporting Russ. Over the past year, he has been doing his homework, seeking out resources to understand the issues from various perspectives. Having been a board member, I know the commitment and amount of homework it requires. Local elections have great impact. Please join me in supporting Russ Ewert in the February 15, 2022 primary.
Sincerely,
Sarah Larson, Former Germantown School Board Member
