Day 1 at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland was a long, emotional and hard-hitting day. The Wisconsin delegation started with a breakfast featuring House Speaker Paul Ryan and by 1 p.m. got settled in their seats on the convention floor.
As the afternoon proceedings unfolded, the delegates separately approved the credentials, platform and rules committee reports.
A motion for a roll-call vote to unbind the delegates did not carry, which effectively ended any notion that Donald Trump will not receive the nomination.
The theme of evening session was national and domestic security. It began with emotional and heartfelt speeches from Navy Seal and lone survivor Marcus Luttrell, and Pat Smith who is the mother of Benghazi victim Sean Smith, as well as a speech from the Benghazi rescue team who gave a detailed account of their rescue attempt.
These speeches illustrated the incompetence of the Obama administration. From there, once again the state of Wisconsin was showcased, with speeches from Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke (who received an enormous welcome) and Congressman Sean Duffy with his wife Rachel.
The evening culminated with a fiery speech from Rudy Guiliani and a speech from Melania Trump.
