Germantown, WI – Heads up Germantown. The surrounding area has seen a few incidents of what is called a “Distraction Burglary.”
Distraction burglars normally work in groups of at least 2. Their goal is to distract and trick their way into your home so they can take your valuables.
A subject you are not expecting will come to your door. They may pose as a utility worker, municipal worker, or offer home improvement services.
They may try and get you outside of your home or into a remote part of your residence or distract you at the front door. While you are distracted by this subject, another subject will try and enter your residence and look for valuables to steal.
If someone asks to enter your home, ask for identification, or call the company to verify that the person should be at your home. If you are still not comfortable, ask a trusting neighbor to come over. Other things you can do: keep your doors locked or talk to the person through the door or an intercom system. If someone else is home with you and you have to go outside, have them stay inside.
Call the Germantown Police Department to report any suspicious behavior.
