September 23, 2021 – Sheboygan Co., WI – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and Wisconsin Department of State Patrol (DSP) issue the below traffic alert for Friday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Sept. 26.
Heavy Traffic Alert – Sheboygan County
WisDOT and DSP expect Ryder Cup and non-event traffic to mix and generate extremely heavy traffic on Friday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Sept. 26 on I-43 and WIS 42 ingress and egress routes for the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straights Golf Course in Kohler, Sheboygan County.
On Friday, an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 event attendees will combine with the already present Friday morning and evening commuter traffic to generate significant traffic on northbound I-43 (morning), southbound I-43 (evening) and WIS 42.
Significant traffic is also expected in the morning and evening on Saturday and Sunday as event traffic to and from the event mixes with weekend traffic. Patrons of Ryder Cup are expected to arrive starting at 4 a.m.
WisDOT and DSP encourage general public drivers (non-Ryder cup traffic) not to use I-43 and WIS 42 during the morning hours and evening hours the next three days in Sheboygan County. Drivers should expect delays and potential back-ups on both routes.
