September 15, 2021 – West Bend, WI – Some dramatic footage of a collapse of a huge wall during demolition at the West Bend Brewery on S. Main Street in West Bend.
The incident was broadcast live on Washington County Insider on Facebook.
Over the past two weeks updates of the demo of the old West Bend Brewery have been broadcast as work crews in excavators are seen meticulously bringing down sections of the structure.
The demolition Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m. seemed rapid as an excavator pushed up against a section of wall and when that went down it set off a wave as the ceiling fell and then a full section of wall.
The equipment came to a halt and men in yellow shirts and helmets started walking toward the street side of the structure.
Contractors waived traffic to a single lane on the west side of the street as heavy equipment was used to push bricks off to the sidewalk area. A section of Cyclone fence was crushed and a man in a yellow shirt who was working on site was taken to a four wheeler and driven out of view.
Calls to the local fire department indicated they were never contacted about the incident and neither was the sheriff.
Checking back Wednesday afternoon the street had been cleared, new fencing brought in and demolition underway.
