20th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance fundraising Freedom Ride event today | By Steve Volkert

Hartford, WI – Today, Saturday, September 11, 2021, there will be a Freedom Ride (motorcycles) starting at 7:30 a.m. to raise money for local firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical technicians.

The ride starts at Silver Eagle Saloon, 207 S. 2nd Street, Watertown.

There will be three stops during the Freedom Ride, including the Hartford Fire Department, 111 W. Washington Street, WI. The Freedom Ride will arrive in Hartford at approximately 11:45 a.m. The riders will be coming north on Hwy K, and west on Hwy 60 to the Hartford Fire Department at Bernd Park, 163-115 N. Rural Street, Hartford, WI.

Members of the community are encouraged to come out and line the sidewalks along Hwy 60 in red, white, and blue. Let’s show our support for our local Emergency Departments.

Later tonight, the Fire and Police Department will be participating in the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce’s 9/11 luminary walk. A total of 2,983 paper bags will be lined up beginning at the gazebo at Rotary Park, 1 Grand Avenue, Hartford, and end at Bernd Park. Each bag will have a name of a person who perished on 9/11. The bags will be illuminated beginning at dusk.

A remembrance ceremony honoring those who perished on 9/11 will be held at 8:15 p.m. at Bernd Park. Those looking to reflect on the events of 9/11 can begin the luminary walk at dusk. The ceremony will conclude with a prayer and taps being played.
