A Fond du Lac County jury Friday watched a video police took with Dennis Brantner at the Kenosha Police Department in March of 2014. Brantner was living in Kenosha at the time. He was confronted with fingerprint evidence taken from Berit Beck’s van. Brantner said he had been drinking with a guy at a bar the night before and woke up in a hotel the next morning with little recall of that night. He denied killing her and couldn’t remember that night. (He said, “I did not kill her and I don’t know how I got to the hotel, and I don’t know what time we left.”)

Detectives from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department and Kenosha Police pressured him to confess, but Brantner broke down in tears denying murdering the 18-year-old Sturtevant woman. (He said, “I don’t know, if I did I hate myself.” Sheriff’s Detective Eric Muellenbach said, “But this would be the time to make it right.” Brantner kept uttering, “I don’t know, I don’t know.” Muellenbach told him to put the past behind him; that it was “the time to move forward.”)

The trial continues on Monday.
