West Bend – Marty Gressen moved into Cedar Ridge Apartments 22 years ago and has a love of volunteering. She has graciously collected donations from Cedar Ridge residents for the West Bend Full Shelf Food Pantry for the past 20 years. “I am 90 years old and I remember what it means to be hungry growing up during the Great Depression,” said Gressen. Every month Gressen posts flyers asking residents to contribute $1 on the first of the month. The amount of money she raises each month fluctuates. This year in January she raised $225; February, $312; March, $188; April, $93 and May, $374. Gressen also collects 12 to 16 bags of food each month. One time per year she conducts an apartment-wide food collection. With the help of 10 volunteers and bags donated from Piggly Wiggly they place bags on every apartment door. The food drive held this past week raised $653 and over 200 bags of food were collected.
