On Tuesday, June 21, at 8:15 p.m., a concerned motorist observed a small child unsupervised and running in the roadway in the 1200 block of Alder Street. The motorist stopped, removed the child from the roadway and attempted to locate a parent of the child. The motorist was unable to locate the child’s parent or home and contacted the West Bend Police Department. Responding officers took custody of the child and a short time later were able to locate the parent. The mother, a 31-year-old West Bend woman, had been in the basement of her home when the child left the residence through a door that had not been closed properly. This was not an isolated incident involving this family. The 31-year-old woman was arrested for child neglect and placed in jail. Two other small children were also removed from the home and placed in foster care.
