July 4, 2021 – Cedarburg, WI – The team at 5 Corners Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram and Isuzu Truck & Auto in Cedarburg helps kickoff Independence Day with the Pledge of Allegiance.
A couple notes on the history of the Pledge of Allegiance:
- The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States was written by Francis Bellamy in 1892.
- 1892 was the 400th anniversary celebration of Christopher Columbus’ discovery of America.
- Bellamy wanted a special celebration that year to center on a flag-raising ceremony and salute.
- Bellamy designed the pledge to be short, quick, to the point, and to be recited in 15 seconds.
- The pledge was first used in public schools on October 12, 1892 during Columbus Day celebrations, after a proclamation made by President Benjamin Harrison.
