Spartans take command on offense vs. Homestead Highlanders | By Jason Howarth

May 18, 2021 – West Bend, WI – Despite the threat of rain, the game between North Shore Conference rivals Homestead and West Bend West was played without delay.

The Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as junior Ethan Lebeck knocked in a pair of RBI’s on a triple.

Lebeck went 2-2 in the game with a walk and a run scored.

Spartans’ junior Riley O’Connell also had a big day, with three RBIs and a double while going 2-3 at the plate.

The Highlanders scored a run in the fourth inning off a triple from junior Tyler Miller, which cut the lead 5-1 in favor of the Spartans.

However, the Spartans had a dominant six-run fifth inning that would ultimately lead to the early closure of this game and an 11 – 1 victory by WBW.

Spartans’ sophomore Tayton Herron went the full game as the starter registering seven strikeouts and no walks.  

Highlander’s starter, senior Drew Balistreri had a much rougher outing, as he gave up seven runs (all earned), drew no strikeouts and walked four batters in 4 1/3 innings.

Homestead baseball

West Bend West (8-3) looks to keep the momentum rolling in its next matchup against fellow conference foe Cedarburg (6-4) on Thursday, May 20 at 5 p.m. in Cedarburg. 

Homestead (3-8) will look to bounce back at home on Wednesday, May 19 at 5 p.m. with a game against Slinger (5-6).
