May 18, 2021 – West Bend, WI – About 35 volunteers stepped up over the weekend to help members of the American Legion Post 36 of West Bend observe Armed Forces Day by placing over 5,000 flags on veterans graves at cemeteries throughout the county.
Getting students involved, according to Schatz, is designed so they can have a better understanding of history and respect for veterans and the country’s freedom.
Faith Kreuser volunteered with her friends Taylor Franklin and Meaghan Klassy; they were all part of the same Girl Scout Troop. “We knew they were in need of volunteers,” she said. “We wanted to complete our journey and thought why not do it here. This is pretty fun.”
Memorial Day is Monday, May 31. “Memorial Day, formerly Decoration Day, in the United States, holiday (last Monday in May) honoring those who have died in the nation’s wars.”
In West Bend the Memorial Day service will begin with a tour of the local cemeteries. Click HERE to watch the tour from 2020.
