April 16, 2021 – West Bend, WI – The team at Morrie’s West Bend Honda seem to be glowing … as there’s some big news for the little family on Highway 33.
“We’re having babies,” said Larry Millard. “About 10 of them….”
Earlier this week landscapers at Morrie’s West Bend Honda found a mother duck tucked quietly under a shrub on a little island in the parking lot of the dealership.
“She’s very dedicated,” said Millard. “We all check on her… without trying to get into her business too much.
It’ll be 27 – 31 days before the little ones hatch. Millard expressed concern about the near freezing temps overnight. The mother duck is unphased.
“We’ve got a small pond on the corner or more standing water out back,” Millard said. “We’re trying to figure out where to put the “duck crossing” sign.”
The team at Morrie’s is excited about the new arrivals. “Yes we’ve picked out names already,” said Millard. “We have Pilot and Passport, Sonic and Odyssey…”
Familiar names to those in the Honda brood.
This isn’t the first duck family to make news in West Bend. Many familiar with the old Silverbrook School remember the annual duck parade when custodian Carl Kufahl would lead the mama duck and her ducklings through the hallway to the little creek next to the school.
It seems that mallard would return every spring and lay a clutch in the courtyard.
Do you remember the name of that mama duck?
