Nearly 800 runners and walkers participated in Sunday’s Silver Lining Boys & Girls Club 5K for Kids.
Racers dressed in yellow shirts toed the line for a 10 a.m. start. Bango from the Milwaukee Bucks sounded the horn and the runners were off!
Mitchell Bilitz, 20, from Green Bay was the first 15:42. “Last year I did a little better at 15:27 but going east on Park Avenue the wind was at my back and I took advantage of it,” he said.
“I have family that works for West Bend Mutual but I also like to help the Boys & Girls Club.”
The first-place female was Leslie Ruffalo, 33, of Cedarburg finished “I ran this course last year and finished 15 seconds faster, but the wind was a little tough,” she said. “My husband is on the planning committee for the race and it’s something we’re just supportive of.”

A steady stream of runners and walkers came in for about an hour. Many were greeted with applause and a large selection of 80s beat music provided by local DJ Bob Bonenfant.
Children participated in a kids race and all walked away with a ribbon and medal.
Boys and Girls Club executive director Jay Fisher said this is still one of the largest 5k’s in the Washington County area. “Back when we started there were just two or three 5k’s but our event has always had a good following,” he said.
Money raised goes to support summer programming at the local Boys & Girls Clubs in West Bend and Jackson.
