December 8, 2020 – Slinger, WI – The Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers and Slinger Lady Owls girls basketball teams met in a rare non-conference clash on Monday night in Slinger.
The Chargers entered the matchup 9-1 on the season, while the Lady Owls came with a record of 8-3.

The game was combination of defensive struggles and a cold offense as both teams had a difficult time getting shots to fall. It took almost half of the first half before either team reached double digits on the scoreboard.

However, once that point was crossed it seemed a light switch was turned on; Slinger led at the end of the first half 25-21.

The Lady Owls immediately dominated the second half, building up a 12-point lead due in no small part to Mallory Hoitink who had a hot hand from behind the 3-point arc.

The Chargers had a well-balanced attack led by senior Elle Truckenbrod who paced Kettle Moraine Lutheran with 14 points.

A series of fouls, plus turnovers by Slinger allowed the Chargers to pull within one point with three minutes left in the game.

The Lady Owls managed to secure the win during the final minute on a pair of free throws by Hoitink.  The sophomore led Slinger with 32 points, including seven 3-pointers.

Post-game, Hoitink was humble giving credit to coach Tony Dobson and her teammates for rallying behind her.  Hoitink does not know what her future holds, but said she is “definitely always working hard to get to the next level of basketball beyond high school.”

The Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers (9-2) return home to take on the Winneconne Wolves on December 8.

Meanwhile, the Slinger Lady Owls (9-3) travel to West Bend East to take on the Suns (8-1) in a North Shore Conference matchup on December 8 at 7:15 p.m.
