Jackson, WI – While on patrol overnight, Jackson Police Officer Mueller located a Snowy Owl standing in the middle of the road.
A little after 2 a.m., Officer Mueller believed he was driving past debris on County Road P, until he realized it was a Snowy Owl.
The owl appeared to be in distress. It was in the road, just beyond a curve. Due to the location, Officer Mueller feared it would be struck by the next passing vehicle.
With the assistance of Trooper Darin and Deputy Graper, the Snowy Owl was placed in a squad and transported to Wanakia Wildlife to receive treatment.
Snowy Owls are native to the Artic Circle. They migrate to Canada and Northern United States during winter months. Some years, known as irruption, there can be hundreds of Snowy Owls seen in Wisconsin.
This year seems to be a non-irruption year with only four other confirmed sightings according the Wisconsin DNR.
