11 fire departments respond to house fire in Town of Wayne | By Sgt. Brandon Hood

September 20, 2020 – Town of Wayne, WI -On September 19, 2020 at approximately 10:38 p.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a house fire at a single family residence in the 9100 block of Woodlawn Drive in the Town of Wayne.

The fire was reported by the homeowner who was the lone occupant of the residence.

The homeowner first reported observing smoke inside the residence after walking in from the garage.  The homeowner was able to safely evacuate the residence.

Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with Kohlsville Fire Department.

The fire department was also assisted by Kewaskum, West Bend, Theresa, Lomira, Allenton, Boltonville, St. Lawrence, Slinger, Knowles, and Eden Fire Departments.

Lifestar Rescue also responded to the scene. Woodlawn Dr was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation.

There were no injuries to the homeowner or any personnel on scene as a result of the fire.

The residence sustained severe damage due to the fire, smoke, and water.  Preliminary damage estimates were believed to be around $200,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Kohlsville Fire Department however early indication points to the origin of the fire being unattended food cooked in a convection oven in the kitchen.
