Obit: Norman Boehlke, 89, Germantown

Norman Boehlke, who was active in several German-American cultural groups centered in Ozaukee County, passed away Sunday, May 22, at his home in Germantown, Wisconsin. Norman was deeply involved in the Pommersche Verein-Freistadt, Pommersche Tanzdeel Freistadt, Freistadt Historical Society, and Freistadt Heritage Foundation. A founding member of the Alte Kameraden, he played in this popular local German band for over 40 years. He also helped establish the Ozaukee County 4-H Saddle Club.

Norman was the loving Dad of Nancy (Ralph) Deptolla, Gretchen (Robert) Mauritz, Daniel Boehlke and David (Rebecca) Boehlke. He was the beloved “Opa” of grandchildren Christian (Kristine) Boehlke, Nicholas Boehlke, Anna (Mark) Grzanna, Elsa Mauritz and Samuel Boehlke and special “Ur Opa” to seven great-grandchildren. Norman is also survived by brother Donald (Esther) Boehlke and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian (nee Staut); his parents Arnold and Esther Boehlke; his sister and brother-in-law Verona and Elmer Dobberfuhl, and daughter-in-law Nancy Boehlke.

The visitation will be held Friday, May 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, W196 N9525 Crossview Way, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, with the funeral at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran-Freistadt Cemetery in Mequon. A reception for family and friends will take place immediately thereafter in Trinity-Freistadt’s Gathering Hall. Memorials are suggested to the Freistadt Historical Society, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
