Obit: Duane L. Bruder, 84, West Bend

Duane L. Bruder, 84, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 at The Kathy Hospice in West Bend.  He was born in Burke County, North Dakota on November 6, 1931 to Edward and Anice (nee Roestel) Bruder.  At a young age, he lived in Cle Elum, WA for a short time and moved to Mayfield, WI in 1941 where he attended the one-room school.  He moved to West Bend in 1950 and attended West Bend High School.  On October 17, 1953, he married Evelyn Bartelt at Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Duane retired in 1993 from Bend Industries and drove bus for the Threshold for a few years until his heart surgery.  He enjoyed hunting and belonged to the Ashford Sportsmen Club for years.  In fall, he loved going to Rapids Resort in Athelstane for grouse hunting and deer hunting with friends and his dog, Boots.

He served in the US Army on the fire department.  He belonged to the VFW and the American Legion.  Duane was also a former member of the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn (nee Bartelt); children: Jeanne (Luke) Weninger, Beverly (Charles) Claflin, Mary (Gary) Kapal, Dale (Sheila) Bruder, and James (Cyndee) Bruder; grandchildren: Brett (Anna) Weninger, Stacey (Kevin) Kimmel, Ashley Weninger, Julia and Kayla Bruder; great-grandchildren: Sam, Adam, Alex Weninger and baby Kimmel on the way.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Emil and Catherine Bartelt; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Marion (Lawrence) Krueger, Marlene (Paul) Matenaer, Earl Bartelt, Harold (Margaret) Carlson, and Carol Bartelt.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend (1420 W Paradise Drive).  The Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, May 28 from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.  Entombment will follow at Washington County Memorial Park with full Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Immanuel UCC (501 Walnut Street, West Bend, WI  53095) or The Kathy Hospice (St. Joseph’s Community Foundation, 3200 Pleasant Valley Rd, West Bend, WI  53095).

The family would like to thank Marlene in ICU, Dr. Sawas at St. Joseph’s and the staff at Kathy Hospice for their loving care.  Also, special thanks to family, friends and neighbors for their help in caring for Duane.
