Washington County Farm Bureau Essay Contest Winners | By Kathy Muth

June 10, 2020 – West Bend, WI – The Washington County Farm Bureau held it’s annual Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom Essay Contest this past spring and was open to all 4th and 5th grade students in Washington County.

Nearly 50 students entered the contest. Essays were judged on content, grammar, spelling, originality and creativity and between 100 – 300 words. First place winners receive $50 and $25 was awarded for second and third places. These winners went on to compete at the district level.

Several schools participated but this year’s winners are all from Allenton Elementary School.

1st place:   Isabella Kratz, daughter of Rich and Kelly Kratz

2nd place:  Ella Stensaas, daughter of Tyler and Heather Stensaas

3rd place:  Riley Odenwald, daughter of Brian and Crystal Odenwald

 

 

 

 

 

The essay topic this year “How Has Wisconsin Agriculture Affected Your Life Today, was coordinated with the Agriculture In The Classroom book of the year ‘Right This Very Minute, by Lisl Detlefsen. The focus of the book is how agriculture affects us each day from the food we eat, to the clothes wear and the jobs and businesses involved in our farming and food industry.Washington County Farm Bureau annually donates a book each year to all elementary schools.

The winners will be featured presenters at the Washington County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in early October and recognized for their essay achievements.

Washington County Farm Bureau serves as a voice for farmers and leads the farm and rural community through legislative representation, education, public relations, and leadership develop.
